Day 1 Drive along the coast via Kleinmond and Betty’s Bay to Swellendam, the third oldest town in South Africa. After a walk through town and a visit to the Drostdy, seat of the chief magistrate, continue to Mosselbay, where we visit the Post Office tree and a replica of the ship the Portuguese discoverer Dias used to circumnavigate the Cape of Storms. Continue to Knysna situated on an estuary and book in at our guesthouse on Leisure Isle.
Day 2 Visit Featherbed Nature Reserve with its spectacular views of the estuary and the Outeniqua mountains in the distance to do a walk through an ancient milkwood forest. Then take a short drive to Noetzie famous for its castles situated right on the beach for a walk and a swim in the Indian Ocean.
Day 3 Drive through the Tsitsikamma National Park and do a walk through coastal forest to the hanging bridge over the mouth of the Storms River. Continue to Port Elisabeth for a short city tour before we proceed to our lodge bordering the Addo Elephant Park.
Day 4 Do an early morning game drive and later the afternoon a second drive with the chance to see the Big and the Small Five. Home to elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo Addo is a fantastic place to see these beautiful animals in their natural habitat. And then there is also the small five like tortoises and dung beetles!
Day 5 Do two more game drives in Addo.
Day 6 Take the road via Kirkwood, Steytlerville and Uniondale to Oudtshoorn, ostrich capital of the world for a stay on a working ostrich farm.
Day 7 Visit the Cango Caves with its prehistoric stalagtite and stalagmite formations before a drive up the spectacular Swartberg Pass offering panoramic views of the Little Karoo.
Day 8 Drive down the R62 to Barrydale past endless mountains, fruit farms and wine estates doing a tasting en route to Worcester. Here we turn onto the old Bain’s Kloof Pass, built around 1850 by Andrew Geddes Bain, known as the father of Geology in South Africa. At Wellington we reach the main road again coming to Cape Town late afternoon.
